Kaori Watanabe, Ph.D.
Dr. Kaori Watanabe is a registered patent agent who recently began working with Fish IP Law™. Drawing on her extensive background in biomedical research, Kaori regularly assists senior attorneys and patent agents prosecute patent applications in the pharmaceutical and biotech fields, as well as the fields of medical devices. Kaori conducts research and prior art searches, and assists senior attorneys and agents drafting responses to Office actions from the USPTO.
Kaori obtained her B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Japan and earned her Ph.D in Neuroscience at Washington State University. Kaori’s Ph.D. research focused on investigating elasticity of the largest protein, called titin, expressed in the human body by use of atomic force microscopy. She also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at University of Southern California to elucidate protein trafficking in neurons, focusing primarily on the issue of how proteins are targeted to either the axon or the dendrites using fluorescent and electron microscopies. Kaori has published seven research articles.
Kaori is fluent in Japanese, and further assists Fish IP™’s clients through effective review of various foreign documents.
In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis and juggling. She is actively involved in her church.
